January Meeting Recap

Well our first meeting of 2016 went off without a hitch! We had an amazing turn out and we hope to see you all back in HSC room 506 on Thursday, February 18th!

Things to Know

  • The Quilters Guild of Arlington is having a quilt show in April 22-23rd. Entries are due March 21st. Get your quilts in. If you have a quilt chosen, let us know and you could be a featured member on the blog. Click here for more information.
  • The Oklahoma City Museum of Art has the Quilts of Color exhibit until February 7th. Check it out before it returns to Boston. Click here for more information.

2016 Medallion Quilt Along:

This year, for our 2016 Quilt Along, we will be making a medallion quilt. You have a lot of freedom to do what you want with this quilt. We know some of you were all for following the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild Medallion QAL from 2015, and some of you were chomping at the bit to create your own quilt. We can not wait to see what all of your creative brains come up with!

            Things to know:

  • Each month you complete a border on the challenge, you will have your name entered in for the grand prize at the end.
  • Each month we will have one member spotlight featuring a QAL medallion. Names will be drawn at random. If you would like to enter your name for chance to be featured, please email your name and a picture of your up to date quilt to: fortworthmqg@gmail.com
    • You may only be chosen once
  • The center block is due at the February meeting. If you are following the Seattle MQG QAL, you will be making a 12.5 inch block.
  • If you share pictures of your progress on Instagram, tag your post with #FWMQG2016QAL so we can see your work.

Ann and Jenn showed off our Trinity River Quilt Con Charity Quilt. We will have a blog post up soon to show off the true amazingness of this quilt, but for now, thank you to Fort Worth Fabric Studio for donating the fabric we used to make our quilt.

We love when our members and guests show off their amazing work. We are so lucky to be surrounded by talented people who want to share the love of their craft with others.

Our next meeting is February 18th at the UNT Health Science Center room 506. Remember we have social time from 6:30-7. Business will begin at 7.

Remember:

  • Medallion Quilt Centers are due next month

A Note from our President

Welcome to the 2016 edition of the Fort Worth Modern Quilt Guild!  I hope everyone had a wonderful, fun filled December!  I am excited about 2016 and personally have dubbed it “The Year of Challenges”.  Some challenges I have set for myself include Daily Doodles and walking 1000 miles.  At the time of this writing, I have logged 37 miles and you can check out my daily doodles over on Instagram, @thequiltingcats, if you’d like.
The new board members and I met the 1st week of January and I was so impressed by their ideas and creativity that I went home and cleaned up my sewing room!  I’m not sure why it is that every fall I slack off on quilting and sewing.   Hmm… maybe I need a “quilty therapist” to help me sort this out.  Anyway, I’m off topic.   Let me just say that the Board is definitely going to keep you on your toes this year as they challenge your creativity and hopefully increase your skills.  It should be lots of fun!
As the outgoing VP of 2015, I asked everyone to complete a questionnaire about what they liked, didn’t like or wanted to change about the guild and WOW, you rose to that challenge!  Outside of someone’s request that one of us take her kids to their music lessons on guild nights so she can attend the meetings, I believe the board will be able to continue to do what was liked and will work on changing what wasn’t liked.  So let’s start one of the changes right now.  A majority of individuals requested a change in our meeting start time, and requested more interaction/social time.  SO TAKE NOTE!!

Socialization will begin at 6:30pm
General Meeting will begin at 7:00pm

And we encourage everyone to go to Central Market after the meeting for continued quilty interactions that include food and drinks.
I am looking forward to seeing you all on the 21st and every month after in 2016.  You are all such wonderfully creative and inspiring individuals!
Ann
