January's BOM

If you weren't at January's meeting then let me fill you in on some exciting things happening with the guild this year. You can check out our first challenge here and read about our new point system. We will be doing a Block Of the Month, each block you do and bring to the meeting you will get a point.  You only get a point if you complete the block for that month. If you cannot make it to the meeting with your block be sure to post a picture to our Flickr group by midnight the Wednesday before our meeting and you will get your point. We will be making 12 blocks - 1 each month except for January and July which will have 2. You will not lose any accumulated points if you happen to miss a month. You can earn a total of 12 points for your BOM if you bring them to the meetings or upload them to Flickr. Then if you bring the completed quilt to our December meeting you will earn 10 points. I hope you all will join in on the fun!!

January's Blocks are:
Eight - Pointed Star

And the Economy Patch

We handed out instructions at the meeting, so if you missed it please email us and we will get the instructions to you. Have fun :)

A New Challenge and Some Exciting News!!

First let me start out with the exciting news!

We are working on a point system this year. What's that you ask... Well, let me tell you :) We are going to be offering points for certain things this year and at the end of the year whoever has the most points gets a pretty BIG prize!! Worth playing - you bet!! So how do you get points? You need to participate in challenges, events, come to meetings etc. I will be posting a detailed list of how to earn points and how much each thing is worth later. Here are a few ways to get some points for our next meeting.

We are having a Name Tag Challenge. We want to get to know you on a first name basis and the best way to do that is Name Tags!! That and being friendly :) Here are the Rules: It must be a NEW Handmade Modern Name Tag by You. Of course this doesn't necessarily mean hand sewn - it can be machine pieced, paper pieced, appliqué, embroidery, etc. (In other words you can't go out and buy one) It needs to be around 3X5" and your name needs to be legible. Don't get to fancy with the script or we still won't know your name. Ok so if you make a NEW name tag and wear it to February's meeting you get a point. If you are not able to make it to the meeting you can still participate. Upload a picture of your NEW name tag and post it to our Flickr group by midnight on the Wednesday before our meeting and you will get your point. If you have not joined the group yet, please click the link above and ask to join.

Check out all the cool name tags if you need some Inspiration. I can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

January's Meeting

We had our first meeting of 2013 last night and boy was it packed full. We have lots of challenges, a new BOM and a lot of other great things coming up this year. I will post about each challenge and the BOM soon. We had a lot of amazing quilts and quilt tops last night!! Jonquele showed one of (that's right I said one of - that Lady has made a few more that we will see next month!! Go Jonquele) her Madrona Road Challenge Quilts. She will be posting this to the Flickr Group and hopefully will get picked to be in the Michael Miller Booth at Quiltcon.

 Front and Back

Sharon brought a beautiful bright Bow Tie Quilt of her own design.

Julie made a really cute London Quilt.
I love the fabric!!

Sarah made this complex Kaleidoscope Quilt.

Maureen showed this sweet Baby Quilt

And this beauty!! I believe it is an Elizabeth Hartman pattern.

Elizabeth brought this cute Baby Quilt. Look at that appliqué!!

Lisa made this fantastic Lap Quilt.
She used Tula Pink's Stacks pattern.

Mary brought this amazing Quilt Top. I can't wait to see how she finishes it.

Jenn brought two Quilt tops to show.
This Retro/Vintage Quilt and

This fun Giant Chevron Baby Quilt. The girl is amazing she really knocks them out :)

Mindy brought a couple blocks she finished up. A disappearing four patch. Such a fun block and will make a lovely quilt.

Great Job everyone :) If you missed last night's meeting I will have the challenge post for February up soon. I hope you guys have a great day!!!

Madrona Road Challenge

We are so excited to be apart of the Modern Quilt Guild's Winter Challenge featuring Madrona Road by Violet Craft. A big Thank You to Michael Miller for being so generous and donating this beautiful fabric to our guild.

We are making quilts for our challenge and will show them off at our February meeting. It will be so exciting to see how everyone started with the same fabric and how differently they all end up. I hope everyone is having a lot of fun putting their quilts together.

Be sure to check out the Flickr Group where you can upload pictures of your projects. Such talented people I tell you!! Loads of inspiration. I hope you guys have a great day and we will see you soon!!
