April Eye Candy

Lots of our members took the opportunity to show off at our last guild meeting. Here are some of the gems:
Angela showed us how great it can look to print on fabric with your home printer and some freezer paper.

Suzie showed us some awesome scrappy tops she's working on.

Her ironing was equally impressive!

Jennifer showed us this lovely top, called Made in Cherry.

Jennifer is a busy girl; she also shared this beauty, which may have been a favorite of the evening. This one was from a pattern called Plan C, from Schnibbles Times Two by Carrie Nelson

I finished this top just in time to bring to our meeting. It was my first time using negative space in a quilt.

Mindy made this sweet top for her great neice.

This is January's first completed quilt!! We were all so happy for her and the determination she showed seeing it through!

Anna D. made these coordinating baby quilts with the same pattern, but different fabrics.

Jonquele showed off this fun little art quilt as well as several fun and modern blocks.

Connie's butterfly quilt for a dear friend.

Camille shared her quilting bio and this little guy, heading off on a swap.

Gina made this for a high school graduate and changed the pattern's name from Twisted Ribbons to Ribbons to the Future.

Julie H. and her beautiful finished quilt!

Saturday Sit & Sew

Connie knocked this baby out!

We had a great turn out with about 10 members this past Saturday.
A huge shout out goes to Anna A. for bringing a yummy lunch to share with us!!

Sewing Saturdays Around Town

Last Saturday was our March Saturday Sew and if you missed it you missed a fun time. It was a day full of friends (old and new) and some sewing. I'm not sure we all got as much done as we would have liked, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Some things we did get done were mini stuffed chickens, pillow cases, a baby quilt, hand quilting, long arming 2 quilts and a bag. If you missed this fun day please try to join us next month. The April Saturday Sew will be on April 21st.

There's 2 other Saturday sewing events around town that are taught by our very own Miss Gail. The first Saturday of each month is the United Forever Club at The Berry Patch. We are working on a Civil War quilt. Most of us are making it modern with our choice of fabric.

Then the second Saturday of the month is Quilt Sitters, also run by Gail and also at The Berry Patch. Gail shows us some of her wonderful quilts and shares a technique or pattern. Then there's show and share, which is my favorite part of the meeting. It never ceases to amaze me how talented the quilters in the Fort Worth area are! We are working on a Quilt of Valor in that group.

So if you are looking for some Saturday activities look no further there's lots of fun around!

How to comment on a blog

Continuing our Social Media series, today's topic is how to add a comment on a blog post.

I thought this was easy until I started researching how to start commenting and it seems that there's more to it than I had thought. The easiest way to add a comment is thru google. If you don't have a gmail account it's very easy to set up. When I started quilting and using social media I created an email thru google just for things I do on my IPad generally. That includes any blogging info, facebook, twitter, flickr and pinterest. It's just easier to find it all in one place and not to have my personal family email getting all these emails, especially since I have every comment on my blog being sent to me by email.

The first thing to do is sign up for a google account.

1. Go to www.google.com
2. Click Sign In on the top right
3. Create a New Account by clicking on the left side of the page. Follow the prompts to create your account.
4. It might then go to the google homepage. Don't worry about this, it will not change your homepage, unless you tell it to.
5. Now go to the web site you want to leave a comment on. Since you are here already lets leave a comment on this post. Type your comment into the comment form. Then on the drop down menu below the comment box that says Comment as choose Google.
6. You may or may not be signed in and might be prompted to sign in. The sign in is your gmail account that you just set up (remember to enter the @gmail.com to it) and your password. If it's your first time commenting you will then be prompted to say what name you want displayed when you comment. It can be anything, I don't suggest using your last name, but I see I am and will fix that :)
7. Then hit Publish and it should publish.

There is another way to comment as anonymous, but then the blogger won't be able to comment back to you. It's especially not a good idea if you are entering a giveaway since the blogger won't be able to email you to let you know.

This should work, if it doesn't please let me know by email.

For those who are tech savvy and know other ways to comment I'd love to post that too. I always use blogger so am not sure about the other ways.

Quilt Sitters

What are you doing this weekend? I'll be having some quilting fun on Saturday afternoon from 1 pm - 3pm.

The second Saturday of each month, on of our members, Gail, leads Quilt Sitters at The Berry Patch. Each month Gail shows us different quilts, but all having a common theme or technique. We also do group projects. Right now Gail is giving us a different block to do each month for a Quilt of Valor project we are working on. Theres' also show and share with lots of eye candy. Quilters of all levels and ages are welcome. And The Berry Patch gives a 15% discount on club day!

I'd love to have you join the fun. It's best to get there at 12:45 to get a seat and bring your latest project to show and share. But I warn you, it's an addicting event so you might as well pencil it in for the second Saturday of each month right now :)

How to follow a blog

At the last meeting I promised to continue the social media 101 info. Here's how to follow a blog.

There are several ways to follow a blog and different blogs have different ways to follow them. The 3 most common ways are by email, on facebook or in a reader. Let's go over the email way first.

Some blogs have a box on the sidebar that looks like this, but will be smaller to fit the sidebar. Simply enter your email address and press subscribe. Most email subscription sites will then send you a confirmation email. Just click the link they give you and you will start getting an email when a new post is made. If you scroll down you will see this box on the sidebar to the right. If you want to follow this blog by email just enter your email now. Please don't enter your email in the box below since it will not subscribe you to this blog.

Enter your email address:

Delivered by FeedBurner

I have started following the blogs I really like this way. If you have a blog and don't have a follow by email I suggest you get one, it really does make following blogs easier. Feedburner has a good feed site.

Another way to follow a blog is thru a reader. A reader is a place where all the updates for all the blogs you follow this way can be found. If you have a gmail email then you already have a reader. To see your reader go to the page where you can see your gmail. Along the top of the page will be many choices such as search, images, documents, calendar and more. cCick the word more and a drop down menu will appear. Click reader and your google reader will come up. This shows all of the new posts from the blogs you follow. The only drawback is that you have to remember to check your reader everyday or you might miss a post.

The most popular way to follow a blog thru a reader is thru Google Friend Connect otherwise known as GFC. However blogs that are not made thru blogspot or blogger will not have GFC starting in March. By now most blogs that will be losing GFC do not have it available anymore (I'll cover that in a bit). If the blog is a blogspot blog and you want to follow in a reader find the part on the sidebar that says "Join this site with Google Friend Connect" followed by little face icons under it. Click the Join This Site bar and you are done (it may ask for sign in info if you are not signed into your email). Now the posts from this blog will start showing up on your reader.

If you have an IPad or IPhone there are reader apps that you can get. I use Feedler on my IPad and love it. It's very user friendly and lets you sort thru the posts easily.

The last way to follow a blog is by having the posts show up in your facebook feed. It's thru a site called NetworkedBlogs. There is a little bit of set up the first time you click it so the site knows your facebook info, but it's very simple to follow. Then the blog posts will show up on your facebook page. Again unless you check your facebook very often you will miss some posts, but with some blogs losing GFC this may be the only way to follow. I have started asking bloggers to add a follow by email box for this reason since I don't check my facebook too often.

There you have it, 3 common ways to follow blogs. I know there are other ways out there so if you know of any please let me know.
